Baby’s Third Birthday: A Fancy Floral Fête

This past year we had the joy of celebrating our sweet little girl with an equally charming party for her third birthday. The theme was tea party-inspired — just without the tea and fine china — and filled with lovely floral accents.

It was a whimsically sweet party with a close group of family and friends gathered to celebrate our little girl.

Please join me in recounting the details of her lovely floral fête.

Fresh Flowers

I scored two dozen assorted roses from my local grocery store at a significant discount because they were starting to diminish. After removing the outer ring of browning petals, they were beautiful again. I paired the roses with wisps of baby’s breath and set them on display in turquoise-tinted mason jars.

Darling Decorations

The table was set with a basic pink tablecloth and a runner made of lace doilies. Paper lanterns and crepe paper pom poms hung down from the ceiling, and white wooden chairs finished the look.

I made the number three out of cardboard and faux florals and hung it with ruffle ribbon on the kitchen chalkboard. Opposite the “3” was a black and white baby photo framed in a fancy filigree wood frame. A quick coat of pink spray paint made it party perfect.

The great thing about these decorations is that I can re-use them for another occasion or to further decorate the house. For instance, the photo frame is now hanging on my studio wall and the floral “3” hangs on my daughter’s bedroom door. I’ll likely recycle the flowers and make it into a letter “K” for her.

Fancy Food

In line with a tea party, finger sandwiches were served on pretty silver trays. Guests chose between egg salad or turkey and cheese and paired them with deviled eggs and a bowl of creamy chicken and wild rice soup that was kept warm in a slow cooker.

I made a three-tiered dessert stand out of plastic cups and round serving plates with a few globs of hot glue. Pretty paper doilies and roses inside the cups made my diy stand a bit more presentable.

The top of the dessert stand offered cream puffs. {They’re from the frozen section of the grocery store; just set out to defrost before serving.} The middle level offered raspberry linzer cookies and an assortment of specialty macarons from Hummingbird Bakery. The bottom tier featured homemade gingerbread whoopie pies.

I love baking cakes from scratch for my family’s special occasions, so I made a delightful vanilla cake and frosted it with vanilla cream cheese roses.

The cake stand is another diy {it’s a plate hot-glued to a candlestick}, and the mirrored circle once hung on my wall. I am a fan of creative repurposing!

I think the mixture of fresh and faux florals, the simple and sweet decorations, and selection of desserts greatly enhanced the overall whimsy of the event.

Party Fun

As an activity, the kids made snowflake ornaments with a variety of beads strung onto silver pipe cleaners. {Find the tutorial here.} Even smaller kids were able to accomplish this fine motor skill on their own.
